Ladies and Gentlemen, I am pleased to announce that I’ve actually gone and done it! Yep - this time last year I decided that if I was going to get out on the bike more, the best way was to give myself a proper target. So… being the sad sack that I am, I reverted to the old S.M.A.R.T. targets…
Specific - I WILL Ride my bike for at least 2000 miles in 2006
Measurable - I’ve got a bike computer haven’t I….
Achieveable - well - it’s only 167 miles a month, and I’ll phase it so that the big miles come in the summer, when the weather’s probably a bit better.
Relevant - I want to get fit, best way to get fit is to exercise, only form of exercise I KNOW I can stick to is riding my bike.
Time-Related - yep - 2000 over year, split into 100 jan and feb, 125 mar, 150 apr, 200 may, 250 june,july and aug, 200 sep, 150 oct, 125 nov and finally 100 in december.
And - todays mileage took this months total to 106.47 miles. I’ve managed to hit or exceed every one of my arbitary and rather optimistic targets. In total, rather than the 2000 planned, i’ve managed a rather more healthy 2360.18, and theres still another 10 days to go. I doubt that those 10 days will all be riding days though - i’m hoping to get away up to the lakes and get a little bit of hillwalking in as well.
